VIJAYAWADA: The Kisan Service Organisation (KSO), known as Rythu Seva Sanstha, would organise a meeting to discuss the need to enhance minimum support price (MSP) for paddy and other related issues, at K. L. Rao Bhavan here on Saturday. KSO president Y. Hanumantha Rao said in a statement on Thursday that the meeting would pass resolutions urging the Central government to enhance the MSP for paddy, and also announce bonus. Ministers, former ministers, MPs, MLAs, representatives of farmers associations from across the State would take part in the deliberations. He recalled that the Central government had announced the MSP for common variety paddy as Rs. 930 per quintal, and Rs. 980 for grade A variety for 2009-10. However, it reduced the bonus by Rs. 100 per quintal. Resultantly, farmers would get a net hike of just Rs. 50. The Government announced an MSP of Rs. 1,000 for wheat, the cost of cultivation of which was far less compared to that of paddy. Cost of cultivation of paddy increased by 88 per cent, while the paddy price increased by only 78 per cent. The Government should include Rs. 175, the cost of husk and other wastages, in the MSP and make it Rs. 1105 for common variety, or provide a bonus of Rs. 200 per quintal, Mr. Hanumantha Rao demanded.
