The contribution made by renowned poets — Gurajada Appa Rao and Gurram Jashuva — to Telugu literature, particularly their objective literary pursuits, were recalled at a literary meeting held at SR&BGNR Government Degree and PG College here on Saturday.

The meeting titled ‘Navayuga Vaithalikulanu Smarinchukundam’ was conducted under the aegis of the Telugu Department of the college in connection with Gurajada jayanthi celebrations on Saturday and the 118th birth anniversary of Gurram Jashuva slated to be celebrated on September 28.

Addressing the gathering, K. Koteswara Rao, lecturer in Telugu, KRR Government Degree College, Kodad, Nalgonda district, said the two legendary poets spearheaded a crusade against social evils and spread the message of equality through their thought-provoking literary works.

A short film based on Gurajada’s ‘Puttadi Bomma Poornamma’ was screened on the occasion.
