HYDERABAD: The State Government was scrutinising the awarding of gallantry medals to three senior IPS officers who were served show cause notices recently in the matter, DGP S.S.P. Yadav said on Monday.
“The gallantry medal issue is under the scrutiny of the State Government. I cannot comment more than this,” he said replying to a question at a press conference held to brief about the Police Commemoration Day. Serving of notices asking the three IPS officers why they cannot be stripped of the medals created ripples in the State’s police circles and became a contentious issue.
Mr. Yadav, however, declined to give further details about the issue responding on a gamut of subjects. Referring to the twin blasts last year in Hyderabad, he remarked that the Mumbai police got the broader picture of who were involved by busting a module of terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen.
But the Hyderabad police have to verify the facts by taking two of the 20 arrested persons into custody.
The accused would be soon brought to the city and interrogated for reconstruction of the whole plot pertaining to the twin blasts.
The DGP said the Balimela incident that resulted in the death of 38 Greyhounds personnel was reviewed by the department internally. Steps would be taken to ensure such “mistakes” do not recur, he assured.
