Sangareddy: If one wishes to lodge a police complaint all one has to do is access the contact centre of the Medak police on Internet and file the compliant online. The portal will identify the jurisdiction and direct the complaint to the officer concerned.
The Electronic Police Information Centre (EPIC), the first ever contact
centre for police, has been developed by a group of six constables at the Medak police headquarters. They also designed the security aspects of the portal including `firewalls'. Oracle and Wipro have trained the constables in Oracle, DBA, networking and web designing.
Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen will launch the EPIC portal on the occasion of State Formation Day on November 1.
The centre facilitates electronic sharing of information, discussions, help centre and information retrieval. It has been designed in such a way that users can find, view, analyse and act on the information in a user-friendly and timely way. Users can search for passport verification status, FIR status, full contact details of the police stations and information links to services and cultural change management. The internal website will provide information like recruitment, inventory, news and Right to Information.
With the portal in place, the Medak district police plan to embark on complete automation of police stations. Work is in progress to provide a web-based environment with a single log on, maintaining complete data integrity and security . This tool will help the police stations in the district share information and creates schedules. Once interlinked with the RTA, the data bank will also help keep a tab on the theft of vehicles.
