KADAPA: Talented sportspersons are being nipped in the bud by depriving them of proper encouragement, All India Youth Federation State general secretary G. Easwaraiah said on Sunday.
Addressing cricketers participating in Bhagat Singh Trophy coinciding with AIYF golden jubilee celebrations, Mr. Easwaraiah said AIYF organised the event to bring out talented sportspersons in cricket and kabaddi at the village, district, city, district and State-level. Budget allotment for sports was meagre and inadequate to provide basic facilities to sportspersons, he said.
Referring to Indian Premier League matches, he said the event turned into a business fetching crores of rupees’ revenue rather than a competitive spirit, he alleged. He condemned the introduction of scantily-clad cheer girls.Kadapa Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha called upon children and youth to take up sports as it would promote physical fitness. He wanted talented sportspersons given due encouragement. AIYF district president G.V. Mohanakrishna, secretary P. Subbarayudu, city secretary T. Balu, APUWJ district president P. Ramasubba Reddy and others participated.
