The Dr. Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute will provide training to over 1500 women members of self-help groups in Prakasam district in new fiscal.
“The training will be imparted in phases this year by specialists from the apex administrative training institute to the SHGs in 156 slums in the four municipalities of Ongole, Chirala, Kandukur and Markapur to improve their income generation abilities,'' Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Urban Areas(MEPMA) Project Director B Ravi along with Micro Finance Specialist P Lalitananda Prasad told reporters here on Saturday.
“In a first-of-its kind initiative, we are arranging for bank linkage to a group of nomads who have no permanent address of their own or ration cards in their name''.
He said “we have encouraged them to save Rs. 5,000 with a public sector bank, which has come forward to provide them bank linkage for improving their income level''.
The district had surpassed the target of Rs. 45 crore by arranging for Rs 47.75 crore as bank linkage to 1968 SHG groups in 2010-11.
“We plan to repeat the performance in the new fiscal too,'' he said.
