HYDERABAD: Depressed that he would lose an academic year following reports that his college was being de-recognised by the university, an MCA student ended his life at Hyderguda, the police said on Monday.
V. Tirupati Rao, 23, from Warangal district, was pursuing MCA from a private college at Himayatnagar. He completed his second semester. “Fearing that he may lose the academic year, Rao resorted to the extreme step on Sunday,” Narayanguda SI M. Janardhan Rao said, quoting the youth’s friends.
Rao lives in a rented portion along with two of his friends.
On Sunday morning, he complained of abdominal pain following which his roommates rushed him to a near-by corporate hospital. “While undergoing treatment, he told the roommates that he wanted to commit suicide and consumed bathroom cleaning liquid worried over losing the academic year,” the SI explained.
In a separate case, a five-year-old Ghouse Bee died after accidentally falling in a sump at a building under construction near her house at Vattepally in Rajendranagar on Sunday. The girl was playing around when the incident occurred, police sources said.
