ELURU: The city Mayor Tadigadapa Rama Rao on Tuesday faced a piquant situation in his ‘crusade’ against the menace of pigs.
The officials from the Health Department of the Municipal Corporation of Eluru (MCE) told the Mayor during the latter’s surprise visit in several parts that they were not able to handle the problem of pigs for want of bullets.
He wanted the MCE authorities to meet the district police higher ups for procurement of bullets.
“Each bullet is priced at Rs. 35 in the open market. Never mind, we will procure them with police permission to eliminate pigs”, he stated.
The Mayor undertook the visit in the wake of several complaints from the public on the incidence of viral fevers and the threat of swine flu due to poor sanitation.
The Mayor lost his cool when informed by the MCE personnel that five out of the seven fogging machines meant for eradication of mosquitoes were not working for quite some time.
