Nellore: Mayor Pulimi Sailaja has expressed regret for the corporation occupying the 32nd position in respect of taking up British-assisted DFID schemes and assured that appropriate steps will be taken to rectify the situation.
Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, she referred to the recent two-day meeting at Guntur, involving discussion relating to urban service schemes for poorer sections and conceded that due to various reasons the corporation has been relegated to the 32nd position thereby cutting a sorry figure, when compared to other councils/corporations.
The Mayor assured that all obligations and parameters in this regard will be fulfilled before March next and a new chapter will be opened in civic history. Deputy Mayor Madala Venkateswarlu who also attended the Guntur meeting, conceded that lack of proper co-ordination between various departments of the corporation was coming in the way of the town's development.
He felt sorry that during the past few weeks, a proper start could not be made in the corporation.
Mr. Venkateswarlu informed that efforts will be made to include all the 44 non-notified areas in the urban services scheme.
