Children under 14 years of age should go to school and study and not go to work, district Collector Shashi Bhushan Kumar said on Thursday. Speaking at the National Education Day celebrations in Sarva Siksha Abhiyan-sponsored Madina Model Madrasa at Ghousenagar here on the birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, he distributed clothes, provided by Mallikarjuna Varma of Kurnool, to students of the Madrasa.

He lauded the Madrasa for teaching English, Urdu and Arabic to the students. He promised to allot land for construction of a permanent building for the Madrasa. DRDA project director G. Gopal, who presided, said Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first Union Education Minister in independent India. Rajiv Vidya Mission project officer Suryanarayana Reddy, Madrasa organiser Sattar and leaders S. Sirajuddin, Jayaraj and Janardhan Puranika, students and their parents participated.

Chittoor Correspondent adds: District Collector V. Seshadri paid rich tributes to Moulana Abul Kalam Azad for his services for the development of education in the country. The birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad was celebrated here on Thursday by the minority corporation. Speaking on the occasion he said that the State government would be implementing several schemes for the benefit of the minorities. Additional Joint Collector Sarada Devi, DSP Rajak, District Minority Welfare Officer V. Sapthagiri and others participated.
