A three-day International Children’s Science & Maths Festival is beginning on Friday here with an aim to inculcate a spirit of thinking and innovation among the schoolchildren.

The festival would provide an opportunity to the children from some of the best schools in the city to interact with school kids from India and abroad and learn and share the values of best learning practices, secretary and correspondent of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan C. Vasu Prakash said.

The international exposure would also help prepare these children to participate in international children’s festivals abroad, he said.

The festival would feature talks by eminent scientists and scholars who have been working with children for long. This would give an opportunity to the 300 student delegates, including 50 children from other countries, 150 children from schools across the country and another 100 children from the host school, to clarify their doubts and encourage them to imbibe a spirit of inquisitiveness which is the root of all innovation.

As part of the festival an exhibition is also being organised in which 10 schools from the city and a number of leading schools from other parts of the country are participating. The awards for the best models and presentations would be presented at the valedictory function on Sunday.

Eminent speakers like founding director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology P.M. Bhargava, professor of Homi Baba Centre for Science Education at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai Agarkar C Sudhakar, coordinator of Nehru Planetarium Mumbai Suhas B Naik Satam, centre director of Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre Jimmy K Y Wong, deputy director of International College at Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University in Bangkok Jhanchai Yingprayoon, are to address the children in the festival. These speakers would also be addressing the students of the host school in their classes on these days, Mr Vasu Prakash said.
