Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Clean and Green Technologies are the focus areas offering business opportunities in the Maryland State, USA, its Governor, Martin Joseph O' Malley told the captains of the industry here on Monday.
Addressing a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Luncheon Meeting, he outlined the advantages offered by his State to entrepreneurs. Its location was the best in eastern United States, adjacent to the nation's capital and Maryland has world class facilities, apart from skilled workforce. It was home to some of the leading universities, including John Hopkins and 22 incubation technologies.
Mr.O'Malley, who is leading the largest ever trade delegation to India from an American State, said the exports from Maryland to India had increased by 18 per cent last year.
With the United States Government consolidating all its cyber security systems, he expressed hope that Maryland would become a leader in that area like in the case of life sciences.
Earlier welcoming the delegation, Jay Galla, Chairman CII-AP and MD, Amara Raja Batteries Ltd., said that with the Indo-US bilateral ties spanning a wide range of areas from geo-political security to economy, there were unlimited possibilities for expanding trade.
He said the new manufacturing policy of the Indian Government would encourage mega investments.
Stating that Indian exports to US were planned to be doubled by 2015, he said such interactions would create the platform for advancing private sector's role in Indo-US bilateral ties.
Rushern L Baker III, Prince George's County Executive and Isiah Legget, Chief Executive, Montgomery County, Maryland also spoke at the meeting.
