HYDERABAD: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. launched a new C segment vehicle ‘Eeco’, an improvised version of Omni, designed specifically for the requirements of Indians, by the auto major here on Wednesday.
After unveiling the car, MSIL Managing Executive Officer I.V.Rao told mediapersons that Eeco was launched in C segment category which only had Omni, to fulfil the twin objectives of being a spacious family car and a dependable vehicle to run businesses. He indicated that there would be more launches from the Maruti stable during the year.
Adapted to the stringent BSIV norms well ahead of the April 2010 deadline and ELV compliant, Eeco with its new powerful 1200 cc engine, a new transmission system to meet the diverse consumer aspirations of flexibility for dual use, would be an attraction and India’s first green car among C segment vehicles, he said.
Launched in six vibrant colours, with a petrol fuel efficiency of 15.1 km a litre, dual tone interiors, the ex showroom introductory price for Eeco standard (5 seater) in city would be Rs.2.67 lakh, Eeco A/c, Rs.2.97 lakh and Eeco standard (7 seater), Rs.2.83 lakh. Asked whether there would be price hike, he said it would depend on commodities prices and other parameters. Maruti’s resolve to make all its existing models BS IV compliant by April would add to cost and it might lead to hike in prices for cars across the board.
With 55 per cent market share, Maruti Suzuki is all set to touch the one-million unit production mark by March and 1.3 lakh units for exports and they were confident of double digit growth in the next fiscal. The company was also determined to increase production capacity in its two plants at Gurgaon and Manesar in the next fiscal to meet the demand.
