HYDERABAD: AP Markfed will open 365 procurement centres in 10 districts to purchase maize at the minimum support price of Rs. 620 per quintal.
Markfed chairman Ponnam Prabhakar told reporters here on Thursday that procurement centres had already been opened in Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Shadnagar and Jadcherla agriculture market committees. It plans to procure five lakh metric tonnes of maize.
Markfed will open 33 procurement centres and the rest would be operated by Indira Kranti Patham, District Co-operative Marketing Societies and Primary Agriculture Cooperatives Societies, who were identified as sub-agents.
He said that estimated production of maize was about 25-lakh metric tonnes against last year’s 20-lakh MTs.
