`Three committees pass resolution to prevent further losses'

  • Orissa border, Dandakaranya preferred
  • `Sea change in people's attitude towards movement'

ONGOLE: The Nallamala East and West area committees and Palavanka dalam of CPI (Maoist) favour shifting their activities either to Andhra-Orissa border or Dandakaranya. After the death of Maoist State Secretary, Madhav in an encounter in July, the three committees passed a resolution to shift the movement to prevent further losses.

This was revealed by Nallamala Forest Divisional Committee member Chenchireddy Lingamma, alias Kranthi, who has surrendered to the police.

Kranthi, who joined the extremist movement 10 years ago and carried a reward of Rs. two lakhs on her head, said she decided to surrender due to health problems. She admitted that the extremist movement had failed in Andhra Pradesh.

But it could not be construed that extremism would not succeed in other parts.

There was sea change in the attitude of the people towards the movement in the last 10 years, she said. People used to give them shelter in most villages in and around the forest.

As the extremists killed several sympathisers suspecting them to be informers, people started moving away from the movement. The situation in the forest today is such that nobody offers them food and dalam members have to cook food wherever they stay.

    Police action

As the police started repressing the movement and improved their communication and intelligence network, extremists lost several important leaders like Madhav, Matta Ravi Kumar and Sudarsan while several others surrendered to the police.
