The police unearthed a major arms dump believed to be that of CPI (Maoist) in the Nallamala forest close to Sidhapuram tank near Atmakur in Kurnool district on Wednesday.

On a tip-off, the police led by Inspector Babu Prasad ventured into the forest and dug out the huge cache of arms which include a rocket launcher, four guns, 300 rounds of ammunition, eight grenades, gas cylinders, drilling machines and other tools used in making of guns.

The police also found literature helpful for manufacturing of crude guns. Some communication equipment and walkie-talkie sets were also found. The unearthing of arms perturbed the area at a time when there was lull in the activity of extremists.
