`Kalyanamastu' organised at eight centres in district

KHAMMAM: Some 383 couples tied the nuptial knot under the TTD-sponsored `Kalyanamastu' - a mass marriages programme - organised at eight centres in the district on Thursday.

The temple town of Bhadrachalam accounted for the highest of 201 marriages. Many tribal youths from the 15 agency mandals of Bhadrachalam and Burgumpadu divisions were among those who entered wedlock.

It was a glittering function near the Kalyanamantapam at the Sri Sitaramachandraswamy Devasthanams.

The TTD made the arrangements for the mass marriages on a grand scale. Some 250 couples were expected to avail themselves of the scheme.

But some of them coming from far off tribal pockets could not reach the temple in time.

TTD officials, in coordination with the Bhadrachalam temple authorities and local officials, provided free accommodation, food for the couples and their relatives. Bhadrachalam Trust Board chairman Venkat Reddy, Deputy Superintendent of Police Uday Bhaskar and others blessed the newly weds.
