A father-son duo, who were illegally making low-intensity country bombs to be used during the annual Jatara festivities of local deity at Edepalli in Machilipatnam town on Saturday, turned victims of a massive blast.

According to the Machilipatnam police, father Allanki Vithal Rao (70) died on the spot, while son A. Ravi Kumar (35) was being treated at the district headquarters Government Hospital .

The duo residing in their hut at Rustumbada on the town outskirts were making the stone-pellet filled low-intensity bombs popularly called ‘ulli’ bomb (Onion Bombs) when the incident occurred.

The police said cases under Explosive Act were filed against Ravi Kumar.
