KADAPA: A man hacked to death his cousin in Peddapadu in Railway Kodur mandal on Monday, suspecting that his elder brother died a decade ago allegedly due to witchcraft practiced by his cousin.
Subba Rao killed his cousin Venkataiah (35) when the latter was working in his fields, on suspicion that his elder brother Subbarayudu died 10 years ago, allegedly due to witchcraft practiced by him, the police said. Railway Kodur police have registered a case.
A 35-year-old widow Vani and her two minor children were battling for life after a suicide pact in Bosenagar in Rayachoti town on Monday.
Vani, who eked out a living by tailoring, allegedly consumed poison after administering it to her eight-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son, the police said. The woman and her children were admitted in a serious condition to Kadapa Government Hospital. Poor financial position was said to be the motive for the suicide pact.
Held on theft charge
Andhra Pradesh Special Police personnel nabbed five persons who were attempting to steal 11-kv overhead electric wires in Peddapalle panchayat in Siddhavatam mandal in the early houses of Monday.
Three others fled, according to Siddhavatam Sub-Inspector Sankaraiah. They might be involved in recent theft of electric starters, motor wires and pipelines, the SI said. - Staff Reporter
