KARIMNAGAR: Mala Mahanadu State president Jupudi Prabhakar Rao has dared Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi to declare a Dalit as the Chief Minister candidate if he was committed for the welfare of Dalits in the State.
Mr. Prabhakar Rao visited Karimnagar town as part of his Rajyadhikara Rathayatra porgramme on Sunday.
Talking to newsmen, he pointed out: “If he (Chiranjeevi) has service mind, he should project an SC or ST candidate as Chief Minister”.
Reacting to reports about Chiranjeevi saying that SCs categorisation was a sensitive issue, he said that the Praja Rajyam leader should have knowledge about the Dalit community and respect the Indian Constitution.
Expressing fear that the Kapus might attack the Dalits, who constitute about 80 per cent in the coastal Andhra, and repeat Karamchedu kind of incidents, he said that Chiranjeevi should assure the Dalits that there would not be any kind of attacks on them. “If Chiranjeevi also adopts same policy of the TDP, then we will not allow him to attain power,” he remarked. He also called upon the political parties to accord top priority for the Dalit agenda in the 2009 elections.
Appealing MRPS president Manda Krishna Madiga to join with the Mala Mahanadu to strengthen the Dalit movement, he said that the categorisation of SCs was against constitution.
He said that BSP and all North Indian Chamar (Madiga) MPs opposed classification of SCs.
He asked why the Madiga MPs of the State, who claimed to be champions of classification, have not introduced private Bill on SCs categorisation in the Parliament. The Mala leader suggested that Manda Krishna Madiga should not beg Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy for categorisation, he said.
