Vasavya Mahila Mandali organised painting competitions to commemorate World AIDS Day scheduled on December 1, here on Monday.

On the occasion, Indian Medical Association former president G. Samaram stressed on the need for a HIV-free society. He said it was the duty of every individual in controlling the HIV.

There was a need to create awareness on health right from school days.

The AIDS patients should not be discriminated, and possible help should be extended to them, he said.

CIPLA representatives K. Swamy and Gourisankar said their company was manufacturing many drugs to treat the HIV.

Mandali secretary G. Rashmi said the competitions were aimed at creating social awareness among students. The winners would be given prizes on World AIDS Day.

About 100 students participated in the competitions, she said.

Mandali medical director P. Deeksha and technical support manager B. Keerti were present.
