Internal squabbles in the district youth congress committee took an ugly turn with a dissident group allegedly torching the District Congress Committee office here. Police said some youth entered the office around 7 a.m. and set ablaze office furniture, flags, banner and other material. Fire tenders were rushed and the flames were put out.

Internal bickerings

The incident coincided with the visit of Prashanth Tagore who was deputed by the party high command to study the probable candidates to the two Parliament constituencies in the district on Friday.

It is said that the district youth congress under the presidentship of district NSUI president P. Srikanth was to conduct political training classes at DCC office later on Friday for which all arrangements have been made. But the fire upset the schedule.

Circle Inspector of II town police Janaki Reddy who visited the DCC office registered a case and is investigating. Minister for Information and Public Relations D.K. Aruna also visited the DCC office. It is also said that DCC president Obedullah Kotwal lodged a complaint with the police.

Meanwhile, Mr. Prashanth Tagore held a meeting with the district Congress party leaders, legislators from the district, former MLA’s, presidents of the various organisations at a resort near Kothur mandal headquarters. It is learnt that discussions were held about selection of candidate for Mahabubnagar parliament constituency.
