VIJAYAWADA: Lorry owners in the city on Saturday registered their protest against collection of profession tax from them in an “unjustified and unacceptable manner”.

Leaders of the Krishna District Lorry Owners Association held a dharna at the office of Deputy Commissioner of Transport and submitted a memorandum seeking a review. They said GO 334 had been issued to collect tax with retrospective effect from 2004. AP Lorry Owners Association general secretary Y.V. Eeswara Rao said lorry owners would have to pay Rs. 3,700 for a vehicle with retrospective effect as per latest orders.

KDLOA president Potluri Raghavendra Rao and general secretary Nagumothu Raja were present.
