A lorry driver was burnt alive in a gruesome road accident involving three heavy vehicles between Renigunta and Karakambadi on the Tirupati-Kadapa highway in the wee hours of Thursday.Gundluru Chinnaiah (46) of Railway Kodur, who was driving the truck from Renigunta to Rajampet, died on the spot near Katta Puttalamma temple when his truck had a head-on collision with another truck proceeding towards Chittoor.

What apparently caused the accident was the third truck that strayed off the road, apparently a few hours back, thus partially blocking the road. The accident was attributed to poor visibility in the small hours, which was furthered by the vehicle abandoned slightly off the road. The collision on the fuel tank of the first truck caused instantaneous fire, in which the driver Chinnaiah was burnt to death. Fire tenders were rushed in to douse the raging flames. According to the Renigunta sub-inspector, the driver of the second truck, Venkateswarlu, jumped out in panic along with fellow worker Srinivasulu, and the two were rushed to Ruia Hospital.
