I am being targeted for taking up people's cause: Minister
The Lokayukta has taken up an inquiry against Handlooms and Textiles Minister P. Shanker Rao for allegedly mounting pressure on authorities to transfer the tahsildar of Trimulgherry in Secunderabad cantonment constituency represented by him.
The Minister was said to be nursing a grouse against the tahsildar that the latter did not obey his word. He took up the matter with Ranga Reddy district Collector and the government.
Sources said the Lokayukta took up the case suo motu on the ground that he was interfering with the routine work of officials by misusing his official position.
A notice seeking his explanation was also sought.
When contacted, Lokayukta Registrar P. Dayakar Reddy said the matter was in the “preliminary stage” of inquiry and could not be discussed. The Director of Investigation K. Narasimha Reddy also said the case was not marked to him yet. It would take at least one week for handing over.
Reacting to the Lokayukta's notice, Dr. Shanker Rao said: “I feel sorry for it”.
The Minister confirmed that based on complaints lodged by people residing in Trimulgherry, he had forwarded a letter to the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and the Ranga Reddy Collector Gulzar Natrajan about the ‘high handed behaviour' of the said official.
“It is unfortunate that I am being targeted for taking up the cause of local people. There are some sections opposed to me who may have written a letter to the Lokayukta,” he claimed.
