The Lok Ayukta has ordered issuance of summons to D. Rammanohar Naidu, son of former Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, to appear before the institution here on December 30 in connection with the Kannedhara mining lease issue in Srikakulam district.
The State Government had granted mining lease to Mr. Rammanohar Naidu’s firm Virgin Rock Private Ltd in 2010 in Survey No. 289 on Kannedhara hillocks of Puliputti village in Seethampeta mandal for mining white granite. The local tribal communities opposed the government action by staging protests, but in vain.
Later, the tribal communities living in the area moved the Lok Ayukta seeking justice alleging that they were displaced due to the allotment of lands to Mr. Rammanohar Naidu. They stated that apart from being rich in various medicinal herbs, Kannedhara hills were feeding about 14 tanks and irrigating about 2,000 acres and they also had deep cultural and symbiotic relationship with the hills.
On Tuesday, RDO of Palakonda N. Tej Bharath and MRO of Seethampeta G. Mangu deposed before Lok Ayukta B. Subhashan Reddy and defended their action of sending reports to their higher-ups in favour of granting mining lease. The legal counsel for the petitioners opposed the two officers’ justification vehemently.
