Those whose loans have been waived are eligible: DCC chief
GUNTUR: The State government proposes to organise a loan mela for farmers on July 8 at all public sector banks in Guntur district to help them get money in time for the current kharif season.
District Congress Committee president Muppalaneni Seshagiri Rao, at a press conference here on Thursday, appealed to the farmers to take advantage of the mela and apply for loan immediately if they had not done so by now. Farmers having passbooks and whose loans had been waived under the Central scheme were eligible for fresh loans from July 8, he said.
Appeal to leaders
He appealed to people’s representatives of the Congress to help farmers complete the formalities in the bank to obtain loans.
The government was a pro-farmer dispensation and the false propaganda being made by opposition parties should be ignored, he said. Fertilizer and seeds were also being made available in abundance and fake ones were being weeded out through regular raids, he pointed out.
For tenant farmers
For the first time, agriculture loans were being provided for tenant farmers also by asking them to form into groups, which would not only benefit the owners of the land, but the actual farmer tilling the land, he observed.
