Panic created among the residents of Patharlagadda village near Karapa, about 15 km from here, on Monday morning, when a leakage developed in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline passing through the village. Flames engulfed the surroundings, as the leaking gas caught fire. The sudden flames created fears among the people around, who ran helter-skelter. However, no untoward incident took place and the flames were put out successfully by the fire services personnel.

According to the police, the gas pipeline laid between Purushottamapatnam and Narasapuram in West Godavari district developed a breach .

The revenue and police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The fire service personnel successfully capped the pipeline. The police said that the pipeline belonged to the ONGC.
