Ill-conceived’ policies of the UPA Government to encourage industrialists and corporate fishermen were threatening the livelihood of the fishermen all along the coast, CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy said on Thursday.

Addressing a seminar on ‘Industrialisation: a livelihood threat to fishermen,’ organised by the All India Fish Workers’ Federation (AIFWF), he castigated the government for gifting away valuable lands to the industries and corporates to set up their units on the coast under the pretext of promoting industrial parks and Special Economic Zones displacing the fishermen. AIFWF president and former MP M.. Appudurai said they were trying to organise a united struggle for convincing the authorities to address to the livelihood threat faced by the fishermen.
