A live international workshop on Minimal Access Cardiac Surgery(MISC) was organised by the Yashoda Hospital on Saturday and Sunday. The standard procedures for heart surgery can be most invasive as they involve 10 to 12 inch incisions, while the MISC procedure is often performed through a smaller 3 to 5 inch incision placed between the ribs or can be done with few small incisions. About 150 eminent surgeons from all over India attended the workshop and two renowned international cardiac surgeons – Dr. Hendrik Treede, Head of Minimally Invasive Surgery, University Heart Center Hamburg, Germany and Dr. Mahesh Ramachandani, Director, MISC, Methodist Debakey Heart and Vascular Center, Houston, USA, were the faculty. Three cases of bypass surgery and valve replacements were performed by minimal access approach in the workshop.
