MLA Malla Vijaya Prasad formally launched the Go pooja by performing the puja himself on Thursday evening as part of the festival celebrations jointly organised by devotees of the Hare Krishna Movement and the Akshaya Foundation, an NGO, to commemorate the lifting of Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna 5,000 years ago.

The organisers launched a three-pronged festival celebration in the form of Go-puja, Govardhan puja and Deepotsava. A replica of Govardhan hill was made with a cake weighing 50 kg. which was offered to Lord Krishna and distributed as maha prasadam to all the devotees. To mark the importance of cow, Go pooja was performed. The organisers illuminated the entire premises with multiple traditional lamps as part of Deepotsava celebration.

The epic event of lifting of Govardhan Hill by Lord Krishna with His little finger is celebrated every year in Vrindavan, Mathura district, Utta Pradesh. The same feat is being repeated in the city by the organisers to give the devotees a feeling of visiting the historical pilgrim centre. The Deepotsava festival commenced on October 11 and will go on until September 7. Pooja will be observed every day from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., under the leadership of Niskinchana Bhakta Das, who is the branch head of the Hare Krishna Movement.
