Telugu Desam Party Polit Bureau member P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju has appealed to Collector Kantilal Dande to lift the curfew on the eve festivals like Dassera, Bakrid, and Sri Pydithalli Ammavari festival due in the next 10 days. In a letter submitted to the Collector, Mr. Ashok condemned arrests of innocent people who are not connected with the violent incidents. He asked the police to identify anti-social elements, which entered into the agitation through video clippings and photographs published in newspapers and take action. He said that the 300-year-old fort town had never witnessed violent incidents and people of the town were not aware of curfew rules and regulations. A sizeable number of families live in single room tenements in narrow lanes without a water tap connection and sanitation. They fetch water from public taps and bore wells, and spend leisure time in the narrow lanes. They eke out living on daily wages. “In my long public career I have never witnessed a prolonged curfew where there is no threat of life or loss of life has occurred.”
