The LIC agents, in response to a call given by their All-India Association, staged a demonstration before the LIC main office here on Thursday, protesting against the proposed amendment Bill, titled ‘Beema Bill’, to be tabled in the monsoon session of the Parliament.

The agents, on the occasion, felt that the proposed Bill which was deferred when it was opposed in 2008, would be detrimental to the interests of agents as well as policy holders once it was passed in the Parliament. The Bill would curtail the tenure of commission to the agents and enhance the claim time from the existing three years to five years. It would also impose service tax on the policy holders, said the association leaders.

The one-day protest concluded in the evening.
