VISAKHAPATNAM: A 27-year-old welder of Gajuwaka, belonging to a agriculture labour family of Vizianagaram district migrated to eke out a living in the city, has been diagnosed with leukaemia and needs help to meet medical expenses.

Bojanki Yerrinaidu (Arjun) approached a corporate hospital for treatment under the Arogya Sri scheme but was not admitted on the plea of lack of beds under the scheme. However, the CMC at Vellore decided to give him treatment immediately on coming to know of the condition. Arjun was sent to Vellore on Monday but he needs money to meet the medical expenses, according to V. Someswara Rao of Srirama Charitable Trust located near Lawson’s Bay Colony Post Office here. ‘108’ overturns

An EMRI 108 ambulance overturned after being hit by a Tata Safari at the Old Jail Road junction resulting in injuries to four occupants of the ambulance late on Sunday night.

The ambulance was taking an accident victim to the King George Hospital when it was hit by the Safari coming from the Ramnagar side at the Old Jail Road junction.

They were shifted to the KGH in two other ambulances. No one has been arrested so far. Two Town SI A. Dasaradhi is investigating the case.

Service tax mela

The Service Tax Registration Mela is being conducted at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Service Tax, Division I, second floor, Srinivasa Plaza, HIG 244, Isukathota junction, Sector IV, MVP Colony here up to Oct. 24. Assistant Commissioner A. Manimaran has also informed that the small service providers whose annual turnover was less than Rs. 10 lakhs during 2007-08 can get their certificates cancelled during the occasion.


The following were elected as office-bearers of the District Amateur Athletic Association: Col. Satyam (honorary chairman), J.N. Chowdary (president), D. Nageswara Rao (secretary), K.L.V. Suresh Benerjee (working president), M. Narayana Rao (organising secretary), K. Simhachalam (treasurer). Eight others were elected as vice-president and three as joint secretaries.
