Chief Minister K. Rosaiah has asked the Congress rank and file to join hands in ensuring that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi was made Prime Minister after the elections in 2014.

This, according to him, was the dream of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who wanted the State to play a key role in the installation of Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister. Mr. Rosaiah was speaking at the official celebrations of YSR's 61 {+s} {+t} birth anniversary celebrations at Ravindra Bharati on Thursday. The Congress leaders paid glowing tributes in similar functions organised across the State including the Legislative Assembly and Gandhi Bhavan. A series of programmes were lined up in the city and elsewhere to mark the occasion.

The Chief Minister's made a special mention in the Assembly about YSR's contributions, but was interrupted by TDP member P. Ashok Gajapati Raju who recalled that the House expressed condolences last year and that Mr. Rosaiah was speaking again without moving any resolution. Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy advised members not to rake up controversies if a speech was made on Rajasekhara Reddy.

In Ravindra Bharati, Mr. Rosaiah recalled the ‘distinct style' in which YSR endeared himself to the masses and lent a personal touch in interactions with people from all walks of life. APCC president D. Srinivas, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Council chairman A. Chakrapani, Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi, MIM president Akbaruddin Owaisi, Information Minister J. Geeta Reddy, former Maharashtra Governor V.S. Ramadevi and senior journalist P. Venkateswara Rao recalled their association with YSR.
