Artisans stand to gain as they sell to the customer directly
Several new varieties such as new design Bengal cotton sarees, high quality cotton sarees from Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh and rich carvings on bell metal from Tikkamgarh, also from MP, besides colourful dress materials and wood carvings are on display at Lepakshi handloom and handicrafts exhibition at Viswapriya function hall on Beach Road which began on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, senior manager of Lepakshi Handicrafts Emporium in the city Jaganmohan said there were as many as 70 stalls with majority of them from Andhra Pradesh such as Etikoppaka toys from Vizag district, leather puppets of Anantapur, crochet lace from Narsapur, pearls, metal castings, Banjara hand embroidery and carpets from Hyderabad, Kalamkari, Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Narayanapet, Siddipet sarees and Chirala fabrics on exhibition-cum-sale.
Moradabad brass, Sahranpur wood carvings, Lucknow chikan works from UP, rosewood carvings, agarbathies and perfumes from Karnataka, silk sarees and embroidery wear from Jammu and Kashmir, Bengal sarees, jute bags and clay dolls from West Bengal, Madurai cotton sarees, Rajastani dress material, and bed sheets from Haryana and Delhi are available. “The artisans sell directly to the customers at our exhibition which is aimed to promote crafts and textiles by providing the marketing facility,” Mr. Jaganmohan said. The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily till June 8.
