Lepakshi fest commences

The twelve-day ‘Cotton and Silk Mela 2013’ organised by Lepakshi, the flagship brand of Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd, began at Sindhura Kalyana Mandapam here on Friday.

Film playback singer G. Suneetha was the chief guest. She went around the various stalls displaying products ranging from saris to dress materials, brassware to artefacts. The Pochampally, Gadwal, Venkatagiri, Narayanpet, Uppada, Mangalagiri, Zamdani, Kalamkari, Siddipet, Warangal saris, all typical of Andhra Pradesh, are on display at this expo, while craftsmen and artisans from Bengal, Madurai, Orissa, Jharkhand, Benares, Bhagalpur, Kashmir, Kanchi and Kota have converged here for the mela. “Apart from dress materials and shirts, our expo also has door curtains, Hyderabadi pearls, bangles and ornaments,” says Lepakshi senior manager K. Sreehari.

The expo ends on March 12.
