ADILABAD: A female adult leopard (Panthera pardus) was electrocuted on Tuesday night as it came into contact with live electric wires set up around an agriculture field in Laxmipur village of Kadem mandal. The carcass was recovered on Wednesday from the proximity of an irrigation tank by forest officials who later arrested J. Bhemanna a local on suspicion of having caused the death of the animal. The village is located inside the Kawwal Sanctuary in Adilabad district where farmers install live wires around the perimetre of their fields in order to deter herbivores from destroying the crop. According to sources a tiger had been killed in the same fashion in the Sanctuary in 2000.
