The Government Colleges Contract Lecturers' Association has requested the State government to renew their contracts as a fortnight has lapsed in the current academic year.
Association president K. Nageswara Rao and general secretary K. Suresh in a statement criticised the government for not appointing contract lecturers though classes in degree colleges had commenced 15 days ago.
A delegation of the association led by MLCs -- V. Balasubramanyam, K.S. Lakshmana Rao, George Victor, and Y. Srinivasa Reddy -- had already met the Collegiate Education Commissioner and the Principal Secretary, Higher Education in this regard.
They had initially assured the delegation to renew the contracts but were now taking excuse that the Finance Department's approval was needed.
