A ‘Gandham’ procession was organised from the Madina Masjid in the town to the Dargah atop the hill of Latif Saab to mark the inauguration of the four-day Hazarath Syed Shah Latifullah Quadri Urs-e-Sharief.
Fakirs performed rare feats while taking part in the rally, which passed through Clock Tower, Prakasam Bazaar, Old Town.
About 100 small shops are being set up around the Dargah attracting a large number of people.
Many Hindus also took part in the Urs, which is viewed as a symbol of religious tolerance.
The events to be organised during the four-day religious event, include poor feeding on February 22, Quran recital and ‘quawwali’ singing on February 23 and 24.
Congress leader Syed Arifullah Quadri is the chairman of the organising committee.
