Prominent playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has been named the first recipient of the newly-instituted National Yash Chopra Memorial Award.

Member of Parliament and Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology and Environment & Forests, T. Subbarami Reddy on Sunday made the announcement.

The award was instituted in memory of a close associate and friend, he told a press conference. It carries a Rs. 10 lakh cash award and citation.

The Award will be given away at a glittering function in Mumbai, to be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan in the presence of several Union Ministers.
