Delay in works irks Joint Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah
Four LA units sanctioned for speedy acquisition of land for various irrigation projectsRs.20 crores sanctioned for land acquisitionDeadlines fixed for LAOs to complete work in their respective areas
Srikakaulam: Land Acquisition Officers (LAOs), specially Neelakantam, LAO of Amadalavalasa, came under fire for not completing the process expeditiously at the review meeting of land acquisition for various irrigation projects in the district, held in the chambers of Joint Collector, M. Verabrahmaiah here on Tuesday.
"It is a priority subject and the Government has floated special units for this purpose. You are given additional staff and money. What is the problem in completing the process," an angry Joint Collector asked Mr. Veebrahmaiah. He was particularly unhappy at the way things were going on in Amadalavalasa unit headed by Mr. Neelakantam.
When some officials tried to explain the reasons for the delay, the Joint Collector shot back, "I am not here to listen to your excuses. I am here to listen to the progress achieved. Yours is not office work so that you can come at 11 a.m. and leave at 4 p.m. You have to work round-the-clock and complete the work. If you cannot do it, leave the job," Mr. Veerabrahmaiah said.
In all, four LA units have been sanctioned by the Government for the speedy acquisition of lands for various irrigation projects, including the Phase 11 of Stage 11 of the Vamsadhara project.
A sum of Rs.20 crores was sanctioned for land acquisition. The money has been lying idle for the last two months. After acquisition of lands, the LAOs have to pass awards. Then the owners of the land should approach the District Level Negotiations Committee if they were not satisfied with the quantum of compensation fixed by the LAOs.
This process should not take a very long time, Mr. Veerabrahmaiah said.
Then, the Joint Collector had fixed specific dates for all the LAOs to complete work in their respective areas.
District Revenue Officer, Yadagiri, Reveue Divisional Officer, P.M.J.Babu and LAOs and officers from the irrigation department attended the review meeting.
