Actor and film producer Lakshmi Manchu found herself in deep trouble on Wednesday evening in the backwaters of “God’s Own Country” where she was shooting for a Hollywood movie. But, thanks to her swimming skills that she reached to safety by swimming for a distance.
As it was a day off for her from the shooting on Wednesday, Lakshmi went for rowing in a canoe accompanied by her co-star Sahil, who hailed from Mumbai, around 7 p.m. After rowing for a distance, a large houseboat that passed them is said to have caused ripples enough for their canoe to overturn and they were thrown into the water.
“Though we had lifejackets on, it was quite a nightmare because of the swirling water and the darkness. Though I am a good swimmer, but the thought of what else could be in the water had actually scared me. We have been shooting daily in the water, and we were told that snakes are very common here,” she told The Hindu over phone from Alleppey.
The actor was in Kerala, shooting for a Hollywood movie ‘Basmati Blues’ directed by Dan Baron.
The movie with the tagline ‘Hollywood meets Bollywood’ stars Brie Larson, Donald Sutherland and Tyne Daly. It is at present on its second schedule, Ms. Lakshmi said.
