Float an NGO to help women

KARIMNAGAR: The lady doctors of Karimnagar town, who are otherwise confined to their hospitals and nursing homes, have launched a non-governmental organisation and strive for the wellbeing of the society in general and womenfolk in particular.

The objective of the NGO called -- “Rainbow, a ray of hope” -- is to provide medical and health assistance to the womenfolk including adolescent girls and also provide financial assistance to the poor and bright students for their education. The lady doctors struck the idea of constituting an NGO when they celebrated the Women’s Day at an old-age and orphanage home in Karimnagar town by distributing the essential commodities such as rice, pulses, tamarind, oils etc. Moved after seeing the plight of the elderly, the lady doctors decided to constitute an NGO.

Gynaecologist Akula Shailaja was elected president. Dr Anamala Sridevi is general secretary, Dr Jhansi Laxmi, treasurer, Adi Sridevi, vice-president and Srileela, joint secretary. The executive committee members include, Dr Manjari, Himabindu, Dasari Sridevi, Rajani, Radhika, Haritha, Pullela Sunitha.

Ms. Shailaja told The Hindu on Saturday that they would conduct health and educational camps for the adolescent girls. “We will also conduct medical camps frequently for the womenfolk in general and beedi workers, who suffer from various ailments after,” she said.
