Srikakulam: Senior Congress leader M. Kodanda Reddy began enquiry into the cross voting by the party voters in the recently held Local Authorities Constituency, at the R&B guest house here on Monday.

It may be recalled that official Congress candidate Tankala Babji had lost to the rebel Congress candidate, Gorle Haribabu Naidu (independent), by a margin of 45 votes even though the Congress has 493 votes in an electoral college consisting of 793 voters. Results of the election showed that at least 130 Congress voters had voted in favour of the Congress rebel candidate.

Mr. Babji was the choice of Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao.


Mr. Haribabu Naidu, though in the same party till he was suspended from the party on the eve of election, is his known opponent in the party. As soon as the election was over, Mr.Babji had complained to the party high command that some senior leaders of the party had worked against him. Among them are Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, party MLA Naresh Kumar Agarwal and ZPP vice chairman, Duvvada Srinivas, Mr.Babji had stated in his complaint. A large number of Congress leaders including, MLAs Dharmana Krishna Das, Appayya Dora, ZPTCs, MPTCs and councilors attended the enquiry and gave their version.
