KURNOOL: Collector G. Balaramaiah has said that the proposals for Tungabhadra Pushkaram will be finalised in four days. Mr. Balaramaiah, who conducted a meeting with the members of the Pushkara committee here on Saturday, said efforts would be made to conduct the pushkaram on par with the celebrations during the Krishna and the Godavari Pushkaram in the past.

The collector identified Revenue, Police, Endowments, Irrigation, Health, Fire, Transport, Cultural Affairs, APSRTC and the Municipal Corporation as the key departments for organising the river festival. The collector asked the Fire department to identify and train 70 ace swimmers for deployment at various bathing ghats.The Transport department would regulate the auto fares while the police would control traffic and provide security at bathing ghats. The Endowments department would take up beautification of temples on the river bank.

The meeting decided to set up a medical centre, first aid centre, information stall and dress-changing enclosures at each bathing ghat. Sanitation teams would be posted to each ghat.

MLA M.A. Gafoor suggested that about 10 tmcft of water be stocked to enhance the flow in the river as the Tungabhadra received poor flow in December. Also, he said that the city should switch over to summer storage tanks to meet the drinking water needs. J.S.R.K Sarma, a member, said that the statues of Telugu Talli, Krishnadevaraya and Pingali Surana should be installed.
