Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) demanded the Central government to take steps to carve out Telangana state without any delay as several parties in the UPA coalition extended their support to the separate statehood issue.

TRS MLA K.T. Rama Rao told the reporters here on Thursday that NCP president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar joined several other parties in expressing his party’s solidarity with the Telangana cause.

The Central government should consider his request for expediting the process of creation of the separate Telangana state.

Thanking Union Agriculture Minister Mr. Pawar for his support, he recalled Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s statement in the Karimnagar meeting that she realised the aspirations of the people of the region.

He said that carving out a separate state did not warrant passage of resolution by the Assembly and the Central government could take a decision in line with the Article 3 of the Constitution.

‘Be firm’

He said when the Congress was convinced that the Parliament was the highest forum for ensuring passage of the Lokpal Bill, why was it not firm on implementing the assurance given by the then Home Minister P. Chidambaram that the process of formation of separate state had begun.

Time to quit

TRS floor leader Etala Rajender recalled the deadlines set by the Telangana Congress MPs more than once and said that the time has come for them to quit from their posts immediately if they respected the sentiments of the Telangana people.
