Construction work on own buildings to begin soon, says Vice-Chancellor
Own buildings are required for the 12 (B) recognition, to make us eligible for University Grant Commission funds, said Krishna University Vice-Chancellor Vunnam Venkaiah.
At a press conference to announce the university’s first convocation to take place on December 9 at the Andhra Jateeya Kalasala Auditorium, he said that UGC had already granted funds worth Rs. 5 crore along with another Rs.5 crore funds from the State Government. An area of 202 acres of land had already been acquired for the construction of buildings in Rudravaram (4 to 5 kilometres from Machilipatnam), he said. The construction will begin soon in the next two months, he added. At the first-ever Convocation of the University at Machilipatnam on Sunday, gold medals will be awarded to three students and a total number of 2,111 students will be conferred with their post-graduation certificates along with a Ph.D student, said Mr.Venkaiah. The programme, according to the orders of the Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, had already been decided minute-by-minute, he said. The presence of the Governor on the day had not been confirmed yet, but Justice Jasti S. Rao will be present, he said.
