Traffic on the busy Kolkata-Chennai NH-5 was held up nearly for an hour after activists of Kapu Reservation Porata Samithi (KRPS) staged a sit-in at Atmakur village near Mangalagiri on Wednesday evening demanding inclusion of Kapus into the Backward Castes category.

The supporters led by Sai Sudhkar were sitting on a hunger strike for the last four days and on the final day, decided to stage a rasta roko.

The police even decided to resort a mild lathicharge to quell the agitators and restored normalcy within an hour.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, North, T. Annapurna Reddy conducted the bandobust arrangements.
