He said that the respective legislator of these constituencies should help identify the land in their constituencies for the construction of the stadiums. “Land in Pedana, Kaikaluru and Pamarru constituencies has been identified by their respective legislators. According to the Government Order the site should be of five acres,” he added.

The State Government under GO No. 84 has allocated Rs. 200 crore for the modernisation and sprucing up of sports infrastructure in the 294 Assembly constituencies in a phased manner. “Out of 16 Assembly constituencies in Krishna district, only five were left to get a stadium for the benefit of the locals. Proposals for Tiruvuru, Nuzvid, Jaggaiahpet and Gannavaram have already been sent to Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Mr. Ramakrishna said as per the direction of Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy during Indramma Bata in city recently, the District Collector Buddha Prakash Jyothi has submitted an application to the labour department for the transfer its land at Vidyadharapuram in Vijayawada West constituency in One Town to the Krishna District Sports Authority for the construction of the stadium. “To help these mini stadiums sustain the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh has made a provision for them to function as function halls and the income accrued will be ploughed back for their (stadiums) maintenance. Apart from promoting sports and games in the indoor stadiums, the structure can be used for marriages, meetings and other social functions”.

He said that the SAAP was keen to preventing the stadiums turning into ‘white elephants” and was keen on introducing pay and play scheme for the revenue generation.
